Got Water?

Almost one billion people DON’T!!! have access to clean, safe drinking water and that number is on the rise….hERe are some Fast facts about why water & water conservation are SOooooo important:

“The earth is a closed system, similar to a terrarium, meaning that it rarely loses or gains extra matter. The same water that existed on the earth millions of years ago is still present today. “

“Of all the water on the earth, humans can use only about three tenths of a percent of this water. Such usable water is found in groundwater aquifers, rivers, and freshwater lakes.”

“3.575 million people die each year from water-related disease.”

“The water and sanitation crisis claims more lives through disease than any war claims through guns.”

“People living in the slums often pay 5-10 times more per liter of water than wealthy people living in the same city. “

“An American taking a five-minute shower uses more water than a typical person in a developing country slum uses in a whole day. “

“Every 20 seconds, a child dies from a water-related disease”

Startling facts considering how much people in the U.S. take this most basic need for granted. Do your share and become Water Aware: Here are some tips on how to conserve this precious resource:

Run your clothes washer and dishwasher only when they are full. You can save up to 1,000 gallons a month.

For cold drinks keep a pitcher of water in the refrigerator instead of running the tap. This way, every drop goes down you and not the drain.

Shorten your shower by a minute or two and you’ll save up to 150 gallons per month.

Put food coloring in your toilet tank. If it seeps into the toilet bowl without flushing, you have a leak. Fixing it can save up to 1,000 gallons a month.

Encourage your school system and local government to develop and promote water conservation among children and adults.
