Star Nosed Mole

Now the star-nosed mole aka Condylura cristata is not the most beauteous mammal, but it is however very intriguing to me because of its abnormal nose. It has 22 tentacles coming out of its face, 11 on each side. They have immense feet & claws. It may live up to 3-4 years in the wild, & up to 2 years in captivity. The star @ the tip of the moles face is used for many different purposes. When the mole is digging it uses its tentacles to block the dirt from invading its nostrils, the same action happens when it is consuming its prey. They also use the star to feel the ground where it is traveling on. It moves very fast, a blur in motion.Information obtained from: http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/site/accounts/information/Condylura_cristata.html http://a-z-animals.com/animals/mole/ http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/the-beauty-of-ugly/star-nosed-moles/428/ Pictures obtained from: http://www.google.com/imghp
