EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Summer vacation is upon us and I’m taking every opportunity possible to be out of AZ during this hotter thaN hoT time. From TX to CA to NY to SPAiN and back to CA, there are countless hours of being confined and strapped into a seat; maintaining sanity during the “are we there yet?” periods is crucial. Something that’s even more important than packing the correct ‘fits necessary for each region? Correctly packing my iPOD to ensure hours of enjoyment and anti-boredom. I’m like a 5 year old getting tucked into bed at night, I WANT STORIES!!!!!! Nothing quenches my thirst like hearing entertaining/poignant/honest/insightful experiences from others.
Here are some goodies that are an absolute MUST in my ipod packing list:
“Most weeks This American Life is the most popular podcast in the country, with more than a half million people downloading each episode. When you subscribe to the free weekly podcast, episodes automatically download to your computer. Episodes are available for exactly one week, beginning the Monday after broadcast. Podcast content is the same as the radio broadcast, except on occasion when we include extra material on the podcast that had to be cut for time.” (Don’t forget to check out their 2 seasons of television, available thru Netflix!)
– RadioLab –
“Radiolab believes your ears are a portal to another world. Where sound illuminates ideas, and the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience. Big questions are investigated, tinkered with, and encouraged to grow. Bring your curiosity, and we’ll feed it with possibility.”
– RiSK! –
“True Tales, Boldly Told.” Laugh your ass off until you cry. Or hear someone divulge their deepest darkest secret or more awkward encounter. Every episode has a different theme that’s curated by the creator, Kevin Allison and is oh-so-delectable to the ears. My absolute guilty pleasure. (+ they offer discounts and goodies to http://www.adamandeve.com — how can you complain about that?!)
– Wiretap Radio –
“Enter the mind of Jonathan Goldstein. It’s a nice place to visit, but you wouldn’t want to live there. Part monologue and part telephone conversation, WireTap ushers you into the endearingly odd, funny universe of Jonathan’s friends and family. The Montreal Gazette calls the show ‘something between borscht-belt comedy and Franz Kafka” and the Toronto Star describes it as “[pitting] the absurd against the plausible. The sense is of a world not completely unlike our own that runs parallel… conversation, storytelling and introspection, culled from equal parts real-world experience and the warp of Goldstein’s imagination.'”
“Snap Judgment is the smoking-hot new show from NPR. Winner of the Public Radio Talent Quest, Glynn Washington delivers a raw, musical brand of storytelling, daring listeners to see the world through the eyes of another.”
‘”Education and Condescension” – Fighting ignorance since 1973, Cecil Adams takes questions from the teeming millions, spewing forth correctness week after week.’ It’s straight hilarious + entertaining.
Untangle those earbuds + Happy Listening!
